I found a ticket that’s leaving today
On a train but where it doesn’t say
Somewhere in the desert lying in my way

Put it in my pocket then I walked away
Where was the train should I even stay
I burned the gallows just the other day

The old tack piano sitting by the bar
Was my only work but they threw it in the pond
The hangman says he’s done it by the bartender’s say

He looked in my eyes put his finger in my chest
Said if there’s an issue he’ll have me by the neck
They’ve got this phonograph here now anyways

On the next day I walked to the square
The man was calling all to hear
The bounty hunter’s got one catch the show today

Shackles on ankles barely five feet tall
Cried he’s 15 and that he never stole
Got smacked in the head for the words that he said

Then he pulled the rope out
And grabbed the little boy by his collar
Put him on a wood box burlap sack said don’t holler

I pulled out my lighter and walked up to the stand
The man said oh it’s you again
I poured out his whiskey and burned his gallows down

I have hidden for three whole days
With nothing but just motive to leave
But now I’ve got this ticket
It’s my one way out of town

Miles away I saw a train
Sitting in the sand with no railway
I walked half a day to come upon the front

A single ghost manned the locomotive
He said hop aboard I know where we’re head
The first car opened it was empty as could be

I went inside the door slammed behind me
The train took off the speed it was blinding
And I sat back and rode ‘til the end of my days
